Baie de Saint Jean : rapport de Deborah Brosnan

Suite à mon précédent article, voici quelques infos concernant le réensablement de la baie de Saint-Jean. Aujourd’hui le rapport d’étape du suivi du réensablement présenté par Mme Brosnan aux élus
de la commission environnement du 1er juillet 2008.

 » these projects frequently fail to consider ways to maintain the sand on the beach, minimize further erosion, or address larger consequences. »
 » As is often the case in urgent responses, minimal attention was given to advanced planning or consequences. Cost concerns, intuitive guesses, time constraints, and perceived urgency were the
driving forces. Sand dredging took place in a somewhat opportunistic way. Sand borrows were identified by proximity to shore and ease to access. »
« Erosion along the western side has increased dramatically and the sand dunes are now being impacted »
« Sand was dredged and moved within the bay and this disrupted the existing dynamic sand equilibrium, etc… Changes in localized currents that occurred in the afternath of dredging appear to have
exacerbated the erosion impact ».
« the western side of the bay is experienting greater changes in sand retention and movement. Moreover, dunes are eroding, which represent a permanent loss for the system and is a cause of
concern. »
